2nd Vice President Kurt Hanson and Executive Officer Julie Kneeland attended a Bringing Housing Home congressional meeting with US Senator John Thune on May 2nd. Thune was still optimistic about a trade deal with Canada on softwood lumber. He didn't realize how difficult it is for trucks to enter Canada. There was also discussion about steel prices, tax reform, OSHA fines, keeping housing affordable, workforce development and how things were going in Washington. Thune was attentive, understanding and wrote down numerous notes. It was another very interesting meeting with Thune.
SDHBA President Paul Nelsen presented Thune with a "Friend of Housing" award. Pictured are Paul Nelsen, John Thune and Todd Boots.
Executive Officer Julie Kneeland also attended a Bringing Housing Home congressional meeting with US Representative Kristi Noem on May 2nd. The same things were discussed with Noem along with homeowners tax credits and fair taxes. She also brought up regulations and a possible second tax reform. She also was unaware of the trucking issues getting into Canada. Noem had her assistant take several notes. Noem was attentive, very informative and open. She also shared her goals and plans if she becomes Governor. It also was a very interesting meeting.
What an honor to have US Senator Thune and US Representative Noem meet with us, hear our concerns and be our voice in Washington. Thank you to Home Builders of the Sioux Empire for hosting the meetings with Thune and Noem. The Home Builders Association (on all three levels) is doing big and great things in the Housing Industry.
